Musical Director: Sam Johnston
Born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, Sam’s first introduction to music was with the 17th Tonbridge Scout and Guide Band, one of the finest youth bands in the country of its kind, which saw him performing at prestigious venues all over the UK and internationally including Windsor Castle, Westminster Abbey, The Menin Gate in Belgium, Disneyland Paris, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Birmingham International Tattoo.
His development as a player continued with The Band of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, a British Army band based in Canterbury, where he played tuba.
Following a move to Derbyshire in 2017 and making the switch over to cornet, Sam has played with a number of bands including Chapeltown Silver and The Yorkshire Military Band, and was delighted to accept the position of Musical Director for Hathersage Brass Band in September 2019.
